Abstract

We have studied the local structure around the phosphine adsorbed on the Ni(lll) surface at room temperature that shows amorphous structure in LEED observation. The P-Ni distance is about 2.23 A. The angular dependency of EXAFS demonstrates that the Ni surface is locally reconstructed to the rectangular unit cell structure and P is located almost at the center of a rectanglular plane of 4 Ni atoms. The local structure is the same as that of the annealed P/Ni(lll) surface. The annealing treatment produces a long-range order. © 1993 The Japan Society of Applied Physics.
