Abstract

We present an 11-year-old girl in whom high field strength MRI performed 2½ years and 6 months before her death showed prominent hypointensity in the globus pallidus and substantia nigra consistent with iron deposition. This finding suggested Hallervorden-Spatz disease, which was confirmed at autopsy. © 1989 American Academy of Neurology.
