Electron beam (EB) welding uses the finely focused beam of electrons produced by an electron gun to form a deep, narrow weld. Materials which can be EB welded include most steels, stainless steels, titanium, nickel, aluminum and copper and their alloys; welds in several of the more exotic metals such as zirconium, beryllium, molybdenum and tungsten are also possible, as well as joints between most metallurgically compatible dissimilar materials. The advantages and disadvantages of EB welding are discussed.
