Abstract

The Er:YAG and Er, Cr:YSGG lasers are well absorbed because of their of wave- lengths, both in the water contained in the soft tissues as in the hydroxyapatite crystals pre- sent in the hard tissues. These characteristics make it possible to apply these lasers on hard tissues. We present the multiple uses and applications of this technology in dentistry, as well in soft tissue surgery as on hard tissues, like, for example, in the treatments of caries or bone surgery replacing in both cases the rotary instruments. Since the incorporation of these lasers to dental treatments, a new perspective has been evolved about the use of local anaesthetics. With the use of this technology, non-extensive surgical treatments can be carried out without need of local anaesthesia, though its more frequent use is related to different restorative den- tal
