Abstract
The automotive industries are focussing on the weight reduction techniniques which could be accomplished either by indroducing new design, economical manufacturing process or by implemetng alternative materials. For the several years, the researchers are trying and experimenting to optimize the engine components like connecting rod, crank shaft and piston. The connecting rod is an integral part of the external combustion engine subjected to intense stresses of the forces transmitted from the piston. It has been observed that the reduced weight of the engine effectively increases the efficiency of the engine. In this particular research paper, the primary focus is on the mass reduction opportunities of the two-wheel connecting rod by introducing two alternative materials other than the existing material of the connecting rod.The connecting rods have been designed using carbon steel,Aluminium 7475 and Ti-6Al-4V materials by referring to the literature survey. The connecting rods of introduced materials were designed using the standard empirical. The finite element analysis if then done as per the calculated loading conditions in the ANSYS software for analyzing the datas like Total deformation,Maximum shear stress etc. and finally the optimized results are being compared.
