Abstract

The use of light stabilizers, e.g. UV-absorbers (UVA) and Hindered Amine Light Stabilizers (HALS) in thermoplastic polymers is highlighted. Examples are shown of what can be achieved in natural outdoor weathering as well as in accelerated weathering devices with UVA, HALS, UVA/HALS combinations, HALS/HALS combinations, and the latest NOR-HALS technology. Both thin and thick article applications are discussed for polyolefins and some selected engineering plastics. Furthermore a new class of effect additives is shown, e.g. permanent antistatic additives and biocides, including bacteriostats, algaecides, and fungicides.
