Sports Pharmacy: New Specialty of Pharmacists and Pharmaceutical Care Services

Abstract

인간의 수명이 길어지면서 사람들의 관심사가 건강(health, well-being)에 초점이 맞춰지고, 자연스럽게 운동에 관심도를 증가시켰다. 우리나라에서도 세계 5대 스포츠를 개최하면서 국민들의 스포츠에 대한 관심이 증가하였다. 한국 스포츠 정 책 과학원의 "2020년 국민생활체육조사"에 의하면 2020년 생 활체육 참여율이 60.1%로 2019년 66.6%보다 6.5% 낮아졌지 만 이것은 COVID-19에 의해 외부활동의 감소를 고려한다면, 2015년 56%에 비하여 전반적으로 증가한 것을 알 수 있다. 운동에 대한 관심도가 증가하면서 올림픽과 같은 국제 대회 및 국내 대회 등 여러가지 경쟁에서 선수들의 의도적(intended) 또는 무의식적(un-intended)인 도핑(doping)으로 인한 문제점 이 나타나고 있다. 2014년 소치올림픽 당시에 발생한 '러시아 도핑 스캔들'은 러시아 정부가 개입한 도핑조작 사건으로 도 핑관리의 문제점이 대두된 바 있다. 이에 대한 다양한 노력들 이 국제적으로 지속되어 왔으며, 특히 세계도핑방지기구(World Anti-Doping Agency, WADA)는 2021년 1월에 교육국제표준 (International Standard for Education, ISE)에 따른 새로운 교 육 가이드라인(Guidelines for Education)을 발표하고, 교육국 제표준에 따라 각 전문가들을 통한 선수와 선수지원요원(health care teams)에 대한 도핑교육의 중요성을 강조하고 있다. 1) 약 사의 참여는 2012년 런던 올림픽을 통하여 시작되었으며, 약 사 활동을 6가지 분야에서 제시된 바 있다. 2) 그러나, 국내 스포 ABSTRACT The World Anti-Doping Agency has made efforts to promote the safe use of medications and prevent doping in sports globally. International standards have been established and experts have advocate anti-doping education to athletes and healthcare professionals. Pharmacists are expected to participate in the pharmaceutical care activity of sports medicine in protecting the athletes while providing the spirits of clean sports. In this review, we described the pharmacists' roles and functions in six areas of sports pharmaceutical care: awareness, treatment, prevention, optimization, abuse, and monitoring. Sports pharmacists should be able to prevent inappropriate drug use and manage athletes' illness and injury using pharmacotherapy. Further pharmacists should actively involve to educate and counsel athletes, trainers, and healthcare teams. In conclusion, pharmacists are expected to play important roles in sports pharmacy, which is the emerging area of specialized pharmaceutical care services.
