Abstract

A patient is described who illustrates the recently discovered association between glomerular proteinuria and chronic tubulointerstitial disease, particularly reflux nephropathy and chronic pyelonephritis. At age 32, he manifested significant asymptomatic proteinuria and was found to have bilateral vesicoureteral reflux. In addition, he had coarse renal scarring and calyceal deformity, both of which are typical of the lesions of chronic 'atrophic' pyelonephritis.
