Respublica Literaria dan Argumen Konjungtur Sejarah: Dari Konvensi Epistolari dan Pandai Besi, hingga Kolonisasi dan Kedai Kopi

Abstract

Artikel ini merekonstruksi sejarah melalui arsip digital dari proyek terbuka Standford Library dengan kapasitas total 40.57 GB, yang berisi sejumlah metadata jejaring surat menyurat—penulis Respublica Literaria akhir abad ke-16 hingga 18 dengan subjek seperti Descartes, Robert Boyle dan John Locke juga Isaac Newton. Social Network Analysis—bersama desain etnografi digital—difungsikan sebagai kerangka analisis untuk membaca hasil visual dari Software Gephi 0.10. Analisis tematik terhadap hasil jaringan korespondensi dan arsip terkait menunjukkan, bahwa literasi sebagai suatu gerakan dimungkinkan—setidaknya, oleh tiga konjungsi sejarah, antara lain: Konvensi Epistolari dan Penemuan Mesin Cetak; Kolonisasi dan penemuan Biji Kopi; kemunculan dan fungsi publik kedai-kedai kopi.      ABSTRACT This article reconstructs history through digital archives from the Stanford Library open project with a total capacity of 40.57 GB, which contains a number of correspondence network metadata—Respublica Literaria authors from the late 16th to 18th centuries with subjects such as Descartes, Robert Boyle and John Locke as well as Isaac Newton. Social Network Analysis—together with digital ethnographic design—functions as an analytical framework for reading visual results from Gephi 0.10 Software. Thematic analysis of the results of the correspondence network and related archives shows that literacy as a movement was made possible—at least, by three historical conjunctions, among others: the Epistolary Convention and the Invention of the Printing Press; Colonization and discovery of Coffee Beans; the emergence and public function of coffee shops.
