Abstract
This article explores ecological awareness in the Qur’anic perspective through the thematic interpretation (tafsīr maudhū‘ī) method. The global environmental crisissuch as climate change, pollution, and deforestation has become a serious threat to human sustainability. The Qur’an, as a divine guidance, provides normative principles regarding the human-nature relationship, particularly in the context of human responsibility as khalīfah fi al-ardh. This study collects several relevant verses, including QS. al-Baqarah: 30, QS. al-Rūm: 41, QS. al-A‘rāf: 56, QS. al-An‘ām: 141, and QS. al-Isrā’: 27. The analysis reveals that Qur’anic ecological awareness encompasses four main principles: the responsibility of khalīfah, prohibition of fasād (corruption/ destruction), balance (mīzān), and sustainable consumption ethics. This study highlights that the Qur’an not only emphasizes spiritual aspects but also demands active human participation in preserving the earth as part of a divine trust.
