Abstract
Destructive earthquakes cause grave socio-economic impacts whenever they occur near populated areas. The intensity of such impacts can be reduced to acceptable levels through proper site selection and adequate structural design. This book is aimed at providing guidance for conducting systematic assessments of the potential earthquake hazard of a site. There are nine chapters covering the following: fundamental concepts; essentials of siting; earthquake ground motion; seismic hazard analysis and evaluation of seismic parameters of a site; seismic effects of faults and faulting; soil liquefaction; landslides and slope stability; and the damaging effects of ground waving. -G.E.Hodgson
