Abstract

The catalytic performance of the chiral phase-transfer catalyst 1 (0.1-0.01 mol%) in the asymmetric alkylation of protected glycine and alanine derivatives exceeds that of existing catalysts. The reaction is used in the enantioselective synthesis of structurally diverse natural and non-natural α-alkyl and α,α-dialkyl-α-amino acids. © 2005 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim.
