Abstract

Shrimp paste or also known as Belacan is a traditional cooking spice made from rebon shrimp (kecepe) through a fermentation process that has been passed down from generation to generation among the people, especially in coastal areas. This research was conducted in Rantau Panjang Village, which is one of the villages located in Pantai Labu sub-district, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra Province which has the potential to develop the Shrimp Terasi home industry as an effort to empower the economy of the community in the area. The aim of this research is, to find out how efforts to empower the community's economy are made through the shrimp paste home industry, what impact the existence of the shrimp paste home industry has on the economy of the surrounding community and what impact the shrimp paste home industry has on increasing the income of business actors and the surrounding community in Rantau Panjang Village, Regency. Deli Serdang. Using qualitative descriptive research methods. The results of this research show that: 1. Efforts to empower the community's economy through the shrimp paste home industry in Rantau Panjang Village, Deli Serdang Regency. 2. The impact of the existence of the shrimp paste home industry on the economy of the surrounding community in Rantau Panjang Village, Deli Serdang Regency. 3. The impact of the shrimp paste home industry on increasing the income of business actors and the surrounding community in Rantau Panjang Village, Deli Serdang Regency.
