Abstract

Rapid developmental activities in terms of urbanization and industrialization coupled with population pressure paved the way for an alarming increase in the degradation of the quality of the environment and biodiversity. Educational institutions have a special responsibility not only to decipher the knowledge, but also to motivate students and the general public by practicing and implementing various eco-friendly strategies. In this perspective, Mangalore University since its inception has been making its best efforts to implement and carry out many environment-friendly activities on the campus and outside. In continuation to the regular practice of implementing many green initiatives, during the academic year 2021-22, the university has carried out special plantation drives and additional rainwater harvesting systems. Further, motivated to implement the eco-friendly activities and projects in the Government schools adopted by Mangalore University with the intention of sensitizing pupils toward the environment. Altogether, it helped in maintaining the green ambiance along with further enrichment of biodiversity in and around the campus.
