Abstract

The commentary discusses the increasing gap between the demand for behavioural healthcare services and the availability of clinicians, a situation that is worsening. It highlights the rapid development and adoption of digital mental health tools, such as smartphone apps, to make mental health care more accessible and personalized. However, the benefits of these technologies are not equitably distributed, with the digital divide limiting access for many underserved populations. Therefore, despite the potential of these tools, their impact on patient health outcomes has been minimal, with issues such as poor user engagement and low data quality. To address these challenges, the role of the Digital Navigator(DN), trained professionals who help integrate technology into mental health care, aiming to improve engagement and utilization of apps, is suggested. The article emphasizes the importance of DNs in enhancing the use of digital mental health solutions. It outlines their roles, training requirements, funding avenues, and future policies to improve mental health access and outcomes.
