Abstract
Peat swamp forest ecosystem plays an important role in the context of global warming and climate change due to its ability in absorbing and storing carbon as well as in emitting carbon into the atmosphere. In this regard, peat swamp forest ecosystem has a greater capacity compared to other tropical forest ecosystems. The role of peat swamp forest is determined by its biomass stored in both above and below-ground, including in peat soil. This study aims to estimate the above-ground biomass (AGB) of peat swamp forest within the concession area of PT. Diamond Raya Timber (PT. DRT) based on the site-specific allometric equations. The results indicated that the average AGB in the study area was 210.81 ton ha-1 (range: 66.37-529.11 ton ha-1). The AGB content in the study area was lower compared to those both in other peat swamp forests and tropical rainforests. The biomass estimation should be conducted using a site-specific allometric equation with large diameter at breast height (DBH) range. Keywords:
