Abstract

The Amamachi fishing community, at the tip of the Noto Peninsula jutting out into the Japan Sea, is very distinctive in terms of life style. The Amamachi people have been flexible in coping with occasional crises by changing their own tradition in the community, and they have constantly reconfirmed their identity associated with the historical background. This is why the community has lasted until today without losing its distinctive characteristics.
