“UMPASA” TRADISI KOMUNIKASI VERBAL MASYARAKAT BATAK TOBA DALAM MEWARISKAN NILAI KEARIFAN LOKAL (Studi Etnografi Sejarah Budaya Komunikasi)

Abstract

Researches on cultural tradition showed that cultural tradition contained various cultural values and norms as the heritage of the forefathers which were based on the functions in organizing the social life of the society could be classified as local wisdom. In an inheritance of cultural history that exists in the life of the Toba Batak people, there must be a history of how this custom existed, such as the Umpasa. Umpasa is a type of Toba folk poetry used in social life. In practice, the Umpasa culture is used for events such as weddings, funerals, giving birth and various other types of customs so that with the attachment of Umpasa to the life of the Toba Batak people, it forms a historical inheritance that contains important values that the Batak people themselves need to know, especially the youth who are the next generation in Batak society. The   type   of   research   is   qualitative.   While   research   method   used   is   an ethnography. Most of data collected through study of literature. with the results explaining that umpasa has local wisdom values that must be maintained in the era of globalization and the role of the younger generation to preserve umpasa in the life of the Batak people.
