Abstract

ESR and Mössbauer effect measurements in the crystallization process of 5Na2O·Fe2O3·-8SiO2 glass were made to elucidate the state of Fe3+ ions in glass. The ESR spectra in the crystallization process showed the disappearance of the g = 4.3 line and the narrowing of linewidth of the absorption line centered at g = 2.0. The Mössbauer spectra showed the change from the doublet to the singlet in the crystallization process. These phenomena were interpreted on the basis of the removal of the site distortions of Fe3+ ions in the glass and the removal of randomnes in environments of Fe3+ ions in the glass. © 1980 American Institute of Physics.
