Which inotrope?

Abstract

A variety of inotropes are used to support the failing heart and improve arterial pressure. There is debate over the competing merits of the various agents available and a lack of good evidence on which to base clinical practice, particularly in paediatrics. Studies comparing the various agents have usually been performed on a small number of patients, and some have produced contradictory results. Recommendations are made based on the best evidence available and on the beliefs and personal experience of the authors. © 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd.
