Pío XII en los Andes. Recepción de una figura entre los católicos peruanos

Abstract

This study analyses the reception of the figure of Pius XII and his pontificate among Peruvian Catholics in the context of Peru between 1939 and 1958. The pastoral dispositions, the arrival and diffusion of the pontifical documents, and the messages to the Catholic community are discussed with the review of the National Eucharistic Congresses, the activities of the episcopate, the clergy and the State, the missionary actions, along with the coverage that the national press made of the pope. The article intends to show the presence that Pius XII and his pontificate had among Catholics and Peruvians in general. The reasons that explain this change are explored, highlighting the pastoral renewal, the missionary work that took place in the Church, as well as the importance of communication technologies. As sources, ecclesiastical magazines and newsletters from the time were used, paired with the written press of national circulation.El estudio analiza, en el contexto de la realidad del Perú de entre 1939 y 1958, la recepción de la figura de Pío XII y su pontificado entre los católicos peruanos. Las disposiciones pastorales, la llegada y difusión de los documentos pontificios, y los mensajes a la comunidad católica son revisados a partir del análisis de los Congresos Nacionales Eucarísticos, las actividades del episcopado, clero y Estado, las acciones misioneras, así como del seguimiento que la prensa nacional hizo del papa. Se pretende mostrar de esta manera la presencia que tuvo Pío XII y su pontificado entre los católicos y peruanos en general. Se ensayan razones que explican los hechos, y se señalan la renovación pastoral, la labor misionera ocurrida en la Iglesia, así como la importancia de los medios de comunicación.
