Abstract

This handbook has been prepared as guide for use by all hospital staff who are involved in the care and treatment of patients and in part also for administrators, architects, engineers, domestic superintendents and others whose work may influence the chances of infection among patients and staff. The book is in seven parts: administration, surveillance and responsibility; sterilization, disinfection and cleaning; prevention of spread of infection; chemotherapy, chemoprophylaxis and immunization; care of hospital staff; special wards and departments; and miscellaneous problems (smallpox, hemodialysis units, renal transplantation units, etc.).
