Abstract

Intense southward interplanetary magnetic field is believed to be one of the most important causes for a major magnetic storm, which can produce severe space weather. We first review some current understanding of the origin of this IMF Bz. Then, some results for the prediction of IMF Bz will be reviewed. Our studies for the prediction of Bz will be demonstrated using a kinematic model first designed by Hakamada and Akasofu (1982).
