Abstract

Research on plant nitrogen (N) nutrition has gained enormous impact over the past few years. This special issue includes invited reviews, insights and research articles highlighting research topics relevant to N transport, N sensing and signaling, and importance of N nutrition to environmental adaptation. These articles are contributions from the 4th International Symposium on the Nitrogen Nutrition of Plants, thus representing the recent progress of ongoing research in this area. The articles in this issue highlight plant adaptation mechanisms to varied N supply and propose strategies toward improvement of N use efficiency (NUE).
