Abstract
Introducing Ethel Ethel, the eosinophil, is a white blood cell; a granulocyte like Phred, the neutrophil, and Basil, the basophil. Ethel, Phred and Basil do not, however, look alike under a microscope. Acidloving Ethel stains brick red when exposed to an acidic dye called 'eosin' because all the granules (containing enzymes and proteins) in Ethel's cytoplasm have a very strong affinity for the acidic eosin dye.
