Abstract

As the wind power develops rapidly, the curtailment of wind power increases significantly. It is of vital importance to do more research on wind power curtailment characteristic which is the foundation for wind power operation and optimisation. A wind power curtailment sequence characteristic analysis method based on sequential simulation production model is proposed. Then, the ratio of curtailment frequency and ratio of curtailment generation proportion are presented and calculated based on plenty of simulated data, which can reflect the curtailment characteristic. The simulation shows the wind power curtailment generation increases significantly with the increase the wind power penetration. Under most circumstances, the curtailment last for a relative continuous short time, in which small scale of storage can be used to reduce the curtailment. © 2017 Institution of Engineering and Technology.
