Abstract

Polybulbophiale palmicola gen. et sp. nov. (Hyphomycetes) occurring on a decaying petiole of Licuala sp., collected from a tropical rain forest in Brunei, is described and illustrated. It is unique in having discrete, swollen, flask-shaped, brown, percurrently proliferating, phialidic conidiogenous cells, being clustered around the base of macronematous, mononematous conidiophores. The conidiophores are provided with terminal, swollen, phialidic conidiogenous cells, producing fusoid, 3-septate, hyaline conidia. The genus is compared with Chaetochalara, Dictyochaeta, Mahabalella, and other similar hyphomycete genera.
