Abstract

The papers in this special issue were initially presented at the Weathering 2000 meeting hosted by the Weathering Research Group in the School of Geography, Queen’s University Belfast, from 27 June to 1 July 2000. This was an international gathering primarily of geomorphologists and geologists representing 16 nations including the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, the Middle East and Europe. One day of the conference was given over to the annual meeting of the Stone Weathering and Atmospheric Pollution Network (SWAPNET), an interdisciplinary group of mainly UK researchers with specific interest in stone decay of contemporary and historic buildings.
