Abstract

Local ancient manuscripts represent a significant cultural heritage asset, imbued with immense historical, cultural, and intellectual value. Nevertheless, the undertaking of preservation and conservation is frequently impeded by the dearth of requisite resources. The objective of this study is to identify the most effective minimal conservation strategies for the preservation of regional ancient manuscripts. The research method employed is a literature review, which analyses sources from national and international journals, conference proceedings, and books related to the preservation and conservation of ancient manuscripts. The findings reveal several minimal preservation steps, including physical cleaning of manuscripts, inventory management, designing proper storage, digitising manuscripts using simple equipment, and establishing community groups to empower local communities with an understanding of the importance of managing cultural manuscripts. These strategies can be implemented with affordable costs and limited resources while ensuring the preservation of regional ancient manuscripts as valuable cultural heritage. This study offers practical recommendations for individuals and communities owning ancient manuscripts and provides insights for community leaders and stakeholders to support the preservation of regional ancient manuscripts.
