Abstract

Tonnoir's (1926) assignment of Sciadocera rufomaculata White to the Phoridae is supported and Schmitz's (1929) transfer of it and Archiphora patagonica Schmitz to a separate family, Sciadoceridae, is rejected. The growing number of fossils bridging the gap between Sciadoceridae and Phoridae support the view that the sciadocerids are merely an assortment of Phoridae that share some plesiomorphic features.
