Abstract
The transverse tubules of mammalian cardiac ventricular myocytes are invaginations of the surface membrane. Recent data have revealed that their structure and function are more complex than previously believed. Here, we review current knowledge about their role in cardiac function, focusing on Ca2+ signaling and changes observed in pathological conditions. ©2006 Int. Union Physiol. Sci./Am. Physiol. Soc.
