Abstract
Transportation cost is the most limiting factor for agricultural recycling of sewage sludge. Thus, this study compared transport costs savings generated by the substitution of chemical fertilizers by sewage sludge. To calculate the transportation cost, has adapted the methodology laid down. The added value of the material was calculated by the method of substitute goods markets, using the prices prevailing in October 2009 for Single Super Phosphate, Ammonium Sulphate and Potassium Chloride. According to the results, the value added to sewage sludge was R$ 102.47. The freight for each ton of sewage sludge from Sewage Treatment Plant Franca was R$ 11.84 for a distance of 25 km, which is the average distance between the station and farms. As the value added to the sludge exceeds the cost of transporting it, it becomes worthwhile.
