Abstract

A unified one-dimensional theory of materials which are subject to thermoelastic martensitic transformation or its reverse transformation is presented. The thermomechanical constitutive equations and the transformation kinetics are derived. The theory is shown, for a simple care in tension, to describe well the superelasticity, the ferroelasticity and the shape memory effect of the material.
