Abstract

This account article describes the synthesis of a cyclic benzenoid system, [10]cyclophenacene, using a one-step deca-fold addition reaction to [60]fullerene, and a double-decker buckyferrocene complex, [(FeCp) 2(C60Me10)]. Luminescent and electronic communication properties for each material may give us new opportunities to study photo- and electrochemical functional materials. Theoretical studies on electronic structure of finite-length single-walled carbon nanotubes are also described with respect to the structure of cyclophenacenes. © 2008 The Chemical Society of Japan.
