Prévalence de la cysticercose porcine à Taenia solium ( Cysticercus cellulosae) chez les porcs dans l’aire d’abattage de Kinsoundi à Brazzaville

Abstract

Porcine cysticercosis is a zoonotic disease of major importance in humans. It causes serious public health problems in the countries south of the Sahara. It is in this context that this study proposes to inspect the pigs living and slaughtered in the slaughter area and to check whether the meat from this slaughter area did not pose a public health risk to the people of Brazzaville. This study consisted of diagnosing seven hundred and sixty-six (766) pigs by tongue inspection and identifying cysticerci at the masseter muscles, glutes, to determine the prevalence of porcine cysticercosis in function of age, sex and origin of pigs. The technique of tongue inspection concerned the living subjects and the post-mortem inspection at the slaughter area concerned the subjects slaughtered. Cysticerci were observed in eight (8) living animals, or 1.04% of the pigs examined for tongue inspection. At post-mortem inspection, cysticerci were detected in thirteen (13) slaughtered pigs, a prevalence of 1.69%. Our results show that cysticercosis is a reality in Brazzaville. Surveillance of porcine cysticercosis must be implemented in order to protect the health of Brazzaville’s consumers.
