Analysis of air quality changes due to large-scale social restriction policies (study case: Bogor Municipality, Yogyakarta Municipality, and Bantul Regency)

Abstract

Air pollution is one of the environmental quality indicators. The COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia happened in February 2020, so three area of the cities that had implemented a Large-Scale Social Restriction Policy (PSBB). This study aimed to analyse changes in air quality in Bogor Municipality, Yogyakarta Municipality, and Bantul Regency due to the PSBB based on the air pollutant standard index value. The determination of the air pollutant standard index value is based on critical parameters by calculating the air pollutant standard index value of all parameters referring to the Regulation of the Minister of Environment and Forestry Number P.14/MENLHK/SETJEN/KUM.1/7/2020. The concentration of the five parameters of the Air Pollutant Standard Index (ISPU) fluctuated from 2015-2020. The air pollutant standard index scores before PSBB implementation of the Bogor Municipality, Yogyakarta Municipality, and Bantul Regency PSBB were 59, 74, 87, respectively, whereas after implementation were 58, 36, 64, respectively. The Large-Scale Social Restriction Policy (PSBB) positively impacts air quality improvement in those three areas.
