Abstract

The early history of thermoelectricity is briefl y reviewed, starting from the pioneering observations m ade by Alessandro Volta up to the work of Thomas J. Seebeck, to whom the eff ect of electric current generated by the diff erence of temperature in a metal chain is attributed.
