Knowledge openness practices used by Colombian scientists during the research process

Abstract

By opening up the production and communication of knowledge, the access, appropriation and use of the results is being changed, favoring participation, collaboration and transparency. In this logic, for the formulation of the open science policy in Colombia, a quantitative-descriptive investigation was carried out to analyze the open practices that researchers use in their research processes. A survey addressed to scientists registered in the information system of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation was used. Based on the answers obtained, it was possible to show that open access resources are used in the research design. In the construction of the methodology, the collection and processing, there is a transition towards the exchange of information and data with colleagues and the use of free software; in the development of research, data management is still in its infancy. The most widely implemented practices have been carried out in scientific communication and dissemination. In conclusion, it can be seen that institutional and researchers’ opening practices are increasing.
