Abstract

Thermodn. activities of rare earth alloys such as La-Ce, La-Nd, and La-Gd alloys obtained with a mass-spectrometer by the authors are summarized together with reported values for Pr-Nd and Sm-Gd. Gibbs energies of mixing, which were calcd. from the thermodn. activity values, are compared. The min. regions of Gibbs energy of mixing in La-Ln (Ln = Ce, Nd, Gd) alloys seem to be attained in almost equal molar compns. The Gibbs energies of mixing and interaction parameters of the alloys are compared with each other and discussed with the Miedema's model. The difference in the electron d. for elements was recognized as the important term for rare earth alloys. A review with 7 refs. [on SciFinder(R)]
