ReadME – Your Personal Writing Assistant

Abstract

Essay writing is a difficult cognitive task for both students striving to express their ideas, as well as for tutors investing time to perform evaluations. Besides the validity of the presented ideas, students should verify that their writing is correct and coherent before submitting their essay. ReadME provides an automated method for students to evaluate and improve their writing style based on personalized suggestions. The system is also beneficial for tutors who receive a substantial number of essays for grading and require support. ReadME provides feedback at different granularity levels based on advanced Natural Language Processing techniques used to analyze the submitted texts in terms of lexicon, morphology, syntax, semantics, discourse, with emphasis on text cohesion. The prototype system is available for Romanian and English languages.
