Abstract

A clinically orientated definition of psychoanalysis is proposed and distinctions are made between interactive counseling, psychoanalytic psychotherapy, and psychoanalysis. Elements of the treatment, such as frequency, diagnosis, and use of the couch are found to be helpful tools rather than defining requirements.
