Abstract

7-Methyl-8-nitroquinoline was prepared by the direct nitration of 7-methyl quinoline. The structure of this compound was established by comparison with the product obtained by the Skraup reaction upon 2-nitro-3-toluidine. 5-Methyl-8-nitroquinoline was prepared by a modification of the procedures of Manske, Marion and Leger. 5-Methoxy-8-nitroquinoline was prepared by methoxylation of 5-bromo-8-nitroquiiioline. © 1946, American Chemical Society.
