Abstract
This study aimed to identify the frequency of the use of anabolic steroids by bodybuilders, the profile of its users, the reasons that led to the use of these substances, performing association with sociodemographic factors of users. In this cross‐sectional study, we applied a standardized questionnaire with 100 bodybuilders of both sexes aged 18‐35 years. Thus indicating a greater risk for the use of anabolic steroids among subjects with more than one‐year bodybuilding practice (OR 1.81; CI:.04‐.67, p = 0.01). It is possible to infer that the use of anabolic steroids is something routine in the life of more experienced practitioners, who targeted by aesthetics make more use of these substances compared to the most bodybuilders beginners.
