Abstract

This research explores the relationship between social influence, students’ views, behavioral intention, and the use of ChatGPT. It involved a cross-sectional survey from a cohort of international students in Taiwan. SmartPLS and SPSS were employed to analyze the data and test the hypothesized model. The results indicated that students’ views and behavioral intentions significantly predicted the use of ChatGPT, while social influence did not. Specific indirect effects revealed that behavioral intention mediates the relationship between students’ views and ChatGPT use. Furthermore, behavioral intention also mediates the relationship between social influence and ChatGPT use. The findings provide a theoretical basis for understanding the adoption of ChatGPT by international students, who often experience stress with their academic tasks. Additionally, these insights are significant for educators, emphasizing the importance of ongoing monitoring of students’ use of ChatGPT.
