Abstract

The defensive secretion of Japanese Chrysomelinae larvae (Col. Chrysomelidae) was investigated. Willow-feeding Chrysomela vigintipunctata costella (Marseul) secreted salicylaldehyde and benzaldehyde. In the secretion of poplar-feeding C. populi L., only salicylaldehyde was found. Gastrolina depressa Baly which feed on walnut emitted juglone (5-hydroxy-l, 4-benzoquinone).
