Abstract

The direct ac/ac converters have been investigated in the last two decades because they had no de-link component for large energy storage. In, Japan, 10kVA-40kVA matrix converters were developed in 2005. The direct ac/ac converters are classified into two main categories, namely, the matrix converters and the direct ac/ac converters with dc Link. And various control strategies for them have already been proposed. This paper discusses and summarizes main circuits, control strategies, overvoltage protection, and ride-through capability of the direct ac/ac converters.
