Introduction: Based on the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and the level of proteinuria Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is by classified by the to five stages. End stage renal failure is stage 5 of chronic kidney disease according to above classification.Method:Our study was conducted at the Vascular Surgery Department in Martyr Ghazi Al-Hariri hospital for surgical specialties, which is part of Baghdad In this work we aimed to assess the prevalence of AVF dysfunction whether failure or complication over one year period from the creation to its fate. This study encompassed 321 cases with ESRD, who underwent AVF surgery at the Vascular Department from January 1st 2017, to 1st January 2018 with an average of 6-8 operations per week. Results: 321 arteriovenous fistulae (AVF) were created during the study period, the study population had wide age range from 8-71 years, male (173/321, 54%) female (148/321, 46%).Out of the 321 patients, 171had successful surgery without any complication, the rest had fistula dysfunction of various types. The most common problem that was encountered after the creation of AVF is early complication in 90 patients (28.0%) and the lowest was early failure in 15 patients (4.7%).There was a statistically significant positive correlation between DM and fistula dysfunction. Conclusion: Thrombosis is the main causative factor for early fistula failure, and we intervene. Late complicationincluded wound infection, aneurysm, post cannulation rent (tear) and venous Although the number of late complications was less frequent than early, but unfortunately, they were terminated by ligation more, this attributed largely to the serious outcome expected from this type of complications.
