Abstract

Purchasing green products is one of the cornerstones to promote sustainable development since the negative impact of these products is lower than traditional goods. Consumers’ behaviour towards green products is affected by many factors, including environmental awareness, and might be different among demographic groups. The study aims to test the effect of Environmental Consciousness and the moderation with demographic variables on Intention of Purchase of greener smartphones. 228 consumers from the Southern Brazil answered a questionnaire with items regarding these two constructs. Results indicate a positive relation between them and the relevance of education on the purchase of greener smartphones. This work contributes to the literature with relevant data about environmental awareness among different societal groups, which can help companies and governments to better address environmental campaigns in order to promote sustainable consumption.
