Abstract

The Bukkyo University Library introduced the Summon service, a next-gen web-scale discovery service in April 2011. At an early stage, the major object of search was data derived from the NDL Japanese Periodicals Index; and users tended to search research papers online to finally access to print collections. The accesses shifted to digital content dominantly following the integration of the CiNii Articles service. In terms of e-book, the NDL digital collections have the vast majority of accesses today. Availability of digital local newspaper content accessible exclusively on the intranet also helped improve user experience. Discovery services will make the most of big data in the future. Libraries and database vendors will have a major hand in newly developing design and use of service as a publishing tool
