Abstract

The agronomic performance of Tithonia diversifolia in terms of forage production and quality was evaluated based on the time-based cutting criterion. Forage hedgerows of the shrub were used with monitoring plots and treatments were assigned: cutting at 75 calendar days and cutting at 300, 340 and 380 °C/d, under a randomized complete block design. The time-based harvesting treatments recorded higher (p<0.05) forage mass production as well as higher yield in organic matter supply and neutral detergent fibre (p<0.05), especially in harvests at 300 and 340 °C/d. The results indicate that climate-smart harvesting allows for better plant development and optimal use of forage material for animal feed purposes.
